After 33 Years With Montgomery County Schools, Blair Principal Signs Off

When Principal Renay Johnson walks down the halls of Montgomery Blair High School, her enthusiasm is hard to miss. It’s there in her step, and it’s there in the way she greets students, even the ones she spots wandering the halls when they should be in their classrooms.

Johnson started out as a teacher, then became a school counselor, head of the counseling department, assistant high school principal and middle school principal. Then, 13 years ago, she became the first female to preside over a high school with the largest enrollment both in Montgomery County and Maryland.

At the end of June, she will retire and head to Florida, where she hopes to pursue work in school counseling.
